The number of initial jobless claims in the United States has decreased to 208,000, indicating a steady labor market. The U.S. Department of Labor announced that the number of initial jobless claims for the week ending July 11 fell by 8,000 from the previous week. This figure is below the market expectation of 217,000. Continuing claims for unemployment benefits remained at 1.81 million, also below expectations. After a surge in initial jobless claims in May and early June, the numbers have recently returned to lower levels. Bloomberg analyzed that companies are refraining from layoffs despite economic uncertainties. While job cuts continue in the tech sector, most companies are maintaining their workforce. The four-week moving average of initial jobless claims decreased to 214,250. The unadjusted initial claims rose to 244,826. Bloomberg Economics pointed out that while this figure shows stability in the labor market, excessive interpretation should be avoided. During the summer, seasonal factors can cause significant fluctuations in jobless claims, so the market needs to monitor the moving average alongside upcoming employment reports.
