Rumors of Anthropic Acquiring Robotics AI Company Physical Intelligence Unconfirmed

Rumors about Anthropic acquiring the robotics AI startup Physical Intelligence have garnered attention, but no deal has been reached yet. Physical Intelligence CEO Karol Hausman has internally denied the related news. The two parties did discuss acquisition matters earlier this spring. Physical Intelligence focuses on developing general-purpose robotic foundational models, aiming to allow the same "brain" to control different robots and tasks, with co-founder Sergey Levine describing it as the "robotic version of ChatGPT." The company has raised over $1 billion and is negotiating approximately $1 billion in new funding, with a valuation potentially exceeding $11 billion. Its latest model, π0.7, can handle tasks not specifically trained for under language guidance, but it cannot yet independently perform complex multi-step operations based solely on a single instruction. Anthropic has previously conducted experiments controlling robotic dogs with Claude, but its public actions have mainly focused on research testing. Acquiring Physical Intelligence would enhance its capabilities in robotic control models, training data, and hardware experience.
